RENTcafe, a nationwide apartment search website, recently identified Northern California's top 5 spots with the largest Baby Boomer populations. The oldest Baby Boomers are in their early 70s and the youngest are turning 55 this year.
The issue of aging population is important to our country and to these cities. Many Boomers want to age in place instead of living in care facilities. There will be more and more focus on providing services for the elderly and protecting them from exploitation.
It's also expected that retailers will gradually improve their ability to serve this aging population. Northern California's top 5 spots are:
- Zip Code 94112 - San Francisco: 16,876;
- Zip Code 94015 - Daly City: 12,071;
- Zip Code 94544 - Hayward: 11,593;
- Zip Code 94591 - Vallejo: 11,511; and
- Zip Code 94122 - San Francisco: 11,237.
While these are the top 5 zip codes, other studies have identified the likely largest percentage population increases aged 60 and over in California's Northern California counties.
The study projected the increase from back in 2010 all the way to 2060.
The top 5 Northern California counties with the largest percentage projected increases are:
- San Joaquin County - 220%;
- Merced County - 211%;
- Santa Clara County - 203%;
- Alameda County - 195%; and
- Contra Costa County - 191%.
All of this leads to a reasonable conclusion that the influence of the Baby Boomer generation is likely to become stronger over the next two decades. It also means there will be a real need for experienced trust litigation attorneys who know how to protect an estate from elder financial abuse.
